Assertive Mentoring

Our Assertive Mentoring scheme helps all children understand exactly what they need to do next in order to make progress in their learning. We adopt a 'stage not age' approach for Spelling, Grammar and Maths in order to provide children with focused activities at their own level. This can involve children moving around the school to work with children outside of their usual class group for some lessons. We find this approach, when allied to our focus upon learning behaviour and joint Pupil/Parent/Teacher consultations has great benefit for our children. The scheme is based upon a traffic light system, whereby pupils and teachers use red, yellow and green to evaluate both academic progress and wider learning development. These colour codes form a key part of our termly discussions with both children and parents.
