Annual Residential Trips

Year 5 trip to Burwell House

In Year 5, children all take part in a short residential visit to Burwell House. They enjoy a variety of activities whilst there, including making their own short films in a professional film studio as well as a host of team building exercises. Everyone thoroughly enjoys this great trip and the children all talk enthusiastically about the new skills they learn whilst away.

Burwell 22-23

16/12/22 - 1:45pm - a final lunch of lasagne and gingerbread reindeer has been enjoyed and we are preparing belongings for the return journey. Congratulations to two tables who jointly won the golden candelabra on two occasions! Congratulations also to Beckett room for the tidiest room overall!

16/12/22 - 1:00pm - gathering in the lounge before lasagne for lunch! Grumbling fox tummies are looking forward to their warm meal!

16/12/22 - 11:30am - Burwell Fox! Farmer Baron; Farmer Grey; Farmer Hudson and Farmer Kennedy arrived at Burwell and hunted lots of 9 and 10 year old foxes around the grounds. Well done to two foxes named Bethan and Max, who were caught the fewest times and completed the highest number of questions.

16/12/22 - 10:30am - team games have taken place outside - everything from Fen Skis to feeding the giant stone head! Lots of good communication and team work skills are evident today - well done Year 5! We moved inside for some more challenges and a little respite from the cold!

16/12/22 - 9:00am - breakfast was enjoyed by all! We are just watching the end to a film before getting wrapped up for the team games outside!

16/12/22 - 7:30am - children are up and getting ready for the day ahead. Most the beds are stripped and in the laundry bins. Meanwhile, there is a repeated clatter of cases coming down the stairs! Surprisingly, a second tooth came out last night and we had a second visit from the Tooth Fairy... it appears £2 is the going rate in Burwell. We await the day ahead with enthusiasm! It should contain some team games!

15/12/22 - 7:40pm - Miss Hudson's Tuck Shop is open - she's safely installed in the cupboard-come-shop. Children are visiting Baron Bank before their visit to explore the items on offer! Meanwhile, pupils are watching the remainder of a film. Next up will be the Cuddly Toy Competition. The judges are Kennedy, Hudson and Grey with various categories on offer!

15/12/22 - 7:20pm - hot chocolate and a first look at the finished TV studio reels! You can see these below.

15/12/22 - 6:00pm - our final session of the day has just concluded and we are eagerly awaiting dinner!

15/12/22 - 4:00pm - hot squash and breaktime with a chocolate brownie! This is some much needed time to warm up and have a break before our final activity of the day - either in the TV studio or the batik stockings!

15/12/22 - 2:30pm - off into the snow... and with blindfolds! Wrapped up warm, we paired up and guided blindfolded partners around a few obstacles - also playing a mystery game, "Meet a Tree!" We then trudged through the snow to the Burwell Challenge - a variety of obstacles from giant tyres to tunnels and trampolines, all blindfolded with the support of a guide!

15/12/22 - 1:00pm - a wonderful Christmas lunch was enjoyed followed by apple crumble and custard! We wore suitably festive attire and enjoyed pulling crackers at the start of the meal! Well done to Mrs. Kennedy's table for receiving the Golden Candelabra!

15/12/22 - 11:00 - Groups 1 and 2 have enjoyed the TV Studio experience. Group 1 filmed their pre-planned script, which went well. Group 2 fulfilled a variety of jobs from sound mixer, sound effects, visual effects. Meanwhile, Group 3 completed their batik stockings with careful designs lived out in wax

15/12/22 - 9:30am - getting ready for the day ahead... TV Studio scripts and batik stockings wait ahead.

15/12/22 - 8:30am - a delicious breakfast of cereals, toast, fruit and yoghurts was enjoyed by all (photos included!) The golden candelabra for best meal behaviours has been present on three different tables so far!

15/12/22 - 7:40am - up and dressed for the day ahead with lots of enthusiasm and anticipation of the breakfast that awaits at 8:30am. Just a few minutes to have some quiet time... with most of the group watching the Christmas Short - "Robin Robin".

15/12/22 - we were very excited to wake to discover that the Tooth Fairy visited one lucky resident... and  received a generous Burwell bonus of £2!

15/12/22 - a reasonable night's sleep was enjoyed by most of the residents of Burwell House. A few early words were echoing down the corridor.

14/11/22 - 9:15pm - lights out! Most children were settled by 9:30pm... with a few voices that went on for a little later!

14/11/22 - 8:55pm - the film - "Christmas at Mistletoe Farm" ended and some spontaneous dancing was enjoyed by quite a few of the group!!

14/11/22 - 7:10pm - we are safely ensconced in a Christmas film in pyjamas before bedtime!

14/11/22 - 6:30pm - a chance for showers and a little time in rooms... before the evening activity!

14/11/22 - 6:00pm - dinner time! Chicken goujons, chips and beans followed by birthday cake for the birthday boy... served with a rather enthusiastic rendition of, "Happy Birthday!"

14/11/22 - 5:30pm - a chance to run through the fire drill and get acquainted with this important safety procedure!

14/11/22 - 4:30pm - this is the moment we've been waiting for. Pupils have been anxious to see their rooms all day! There was less enthusiasm and energy for bed making... although they did all get completed relatively promptly. There were lots of examples of teamwork.

14/11/22 - 3:30pm - a chance to run through scripts and a visit to the TV studio to prepare for tomorrow's time in the studio! We explored the HD cameras, control room and even made Miss Baron disappear on the green screen!

14/12/22 - 2:30pm - we are currently enjoying some free time in the snow. Some of us are playing a game of football, whilst others are playing table tennis or exploring the site even more!

14/12/22 - 1:30pm - a delicious, warm lunch was waiting of sausages, mashed potatoes and vegetables. This was followed by a delicious chocolate cake! Smiles all around and lots of helpful choices in working as teams to serve food and clear the tables! The golden candelabra was awarded to its first lucky recipients… well done to Miss Baron’s table!

14/12/22 - 11:00 - several games for us to start our Burwell adventure! We started with the snail game, where children explored the site to discover information and clues about the site. After this, we completed some orienteering and map skills games - this included some interesting facts about the local geography, history architecture.

14/12/22 - 10:30 - we arrived and left items in the building, before a short talk about the rules and objectives of the visit!

14/12/22 - pupils crunched through the snow with their cases and boarded the coach! We arrived safely, after a short delay on the roads!
Year 6 trip to Grafham Water

Every year our Year 6 class visit Grafham Water for a three-day residential trip. Whilst there, the children take part in a huge variety of outdoor activities such as raft building, climbing and tackling the challenge of 'Jacob's Ladder'! Each class thoroughly enjoys this wonderful opportunity and return back to school full of wonderful tales of their adventures (plus the odd bit of wet and cold washing...). Below is a link to the official Grafham Water website, where you can get a taste of the activities on offer.

24/05/23 - 14:20
Pupils are all-abord the coach and en-route to Shelford, full of stories of adventures, challenges and new experiences! Thankfully the weather has been kind... so the washing machines shouldn't have too much of a challenge!

24/05/23 - 11:00
A review of the Grafham objectives set at the beginning of the trip! These were the aims we set for our time at Grafham. It is pleasing to see the progress we have made against these. There'll be lunch soon and then the coach trip back to school!

24/05/23 - 09:30
A cooked breakfast has been enjoyed this morning, before the final activities of the trip this morning. There were some tears this morning... but only from someone who doesn't want the trip to end!

24/05/23 - 08:00
Everyone is a little weary this morning after some very busy days packed full of activities at Grafham. All the door knocks have been completed and pupil shave stripped their beds for the laundry. There is a flurry of packing and room tidying before breakfast!

23/05/23 - 20:30

Hot chocolate and class book is next on the schedule before (hopefully) an earlier night!

23/05/23 - 19:30

Beef pie or pasta in a tomato sauce was on the menu for dinner followed by a delicious chocolate cake. We had a bit of down time after dinner before assembling in our pjs along with our teddies for film night where we are watching Robin Hood, the Disney version.

23/05/23 - 16:00
We’ve had a great day here at Grafham. After chicken wraps or cheese rolls for lunch, we went off to our different activities - high ropes, cycling or problem solving/Grafham challenge. Lots of tired but happy faces returned!
23/05/23 - 09:30
Pupils slept well after yesterday's busy afternoon and evening of activities.

We all had a delicious breakfast with a selection of scrambled egg, toast, cereal and fruit. The sun is starting to appear as we all get ready for our next round of activities. This morning it is either sailing, Grafham challenge or cycling with a rotation of these activities this afternoon.
